You all must be familiar with the term roaming. How can one not? The word is used to describe you using your phone overseas. The moment your phone gets connected to an overseas network, you are roaming. Roaming charges are the extra money you have to pay apart from the standard call minutes, data allowance, and SMS when using your phone outside of your home country. Holidaymakers often used to get a long bill worth thousands of pounds. This article will discuss how mobile roaming in Austria has been affected by Three’s current regulations.
Mobile Roaming in Austria by Three
Before Brexit, the regulations of mobile roaming in Austria and the European Union signified that you could use your mobile allowances of calls, texts, and data in 28 European Union destinations without any extra charge. On September 9, 2021, Three made a public announcement about bringing the charges back that included mobile roaming in Austria and dropping the benefits offered in the Go Roam program. This, in turn, affected those travelling to Australia, the United States, and other places. It meant the decision impacted everyone, and they must pay an additional daily fee to use the mobile phone allowances in some other countries.
The New Rules
Customers of Three must pay £2 a day to get access to their mobile allowances anywhere in European Union countries. Austria Roaming Charges are also the same. For the United States and other Go Roam destinations, the cost has risen to £5 a day.

Go roam allows you to use your mobile plan allowance in 73 country destinations. What was initially free was charged £5/day from May 23, 2022. Three SIM-only deals also fall under this.
The Three Go Roam comprises two parts:
- Go Roam in Europe
- Go Roam around the world
The fair use policy of Three Go Roam
Under the fair use policy, your maximum data usage limit for a month is 12 GB. This applies to Go Roam, Go Roam in Europe, and Go Roam around the World. When travelling outside Europe, the fair policy gives 5000 texts, 3000 minutes, and 12 GB of data. On exceeding this limit, the data is blocked abroad for the remaining billing period.
The Tethering Status
You can share your data allowance with other devices, such as tablets or laptops. The usage in the European Union resembles the one when you are abroad. Tethering is possible from your regular plan allowance or at the rate of 1p/MB or 5p/MB when you are out of your allowances.
When travelling outside Europe, tethering is not allowed until you buy a data passport add-on.
