Back From A Solo Trip On A Holiday To Mexico, Here’s What I Learned

by Kristy

I am back from my extended solo trip to Mexico, and after taking an insane number of photos and solemnly vowing to be pen pals with many strangers residing all over the earth, I feel like I could have a full time career on how you can have the most memorable holiday to Mexico. Although I did scour the internet for inspiration, it was with the locals that I truly understood what really was the beauty of Mexico- it could be the pride they have in their legacy, the value they possess for their lineage, and the sheer joy and welcome with which they share their culture even with strangers. The safety that I felt in the country as a woman- especially as a solo traveller, was unmatched.

It is for this reason, that I decided to arm you with everything that I discovered about Mexico, so you can have as enchanting of a holiday to Mexico as I did. In this blog, OG looks will cover everything you can do in the beautiful landscapes and cityscapes of Mexico, and even pick out some of my favourite hotels in Mexico that you can consider staying at.

Pretty Like You Have Never Seen Instagrammable Spots on A Holiday To Mexico

San Angel’s Artistic Flair

San Angel, a picturesque neighbourhood in Mexico City, which previously used to be a Colonia, offers a stunning backdrop for Instagrammers with its vibrant markets- especially the El Bazar Sabado, an artisan market on Saturdays, and gorgeous colonial architecture. The Bazar del Sábado, held in a former monastery, provides a backdrop of local artistry and crafts. Capturing the artistic flair of San Angel’s streets- starting with Plaza San Jacinto, immerses followers in a cultural and visually captivating experience.

Coyoacan Side Streets’ Bohemia

Coyoacan’s side streets, adorned with bougainvillaea-draped facades and charming cafes, emanate a bohemian allure that is irresistibly Instagrammable. The artistic spirit of this neighbourhood, coupled with its historic roots and Frida Kahlo’s influence, results in a varied tapestry of colours and cultures. Exploring the hidden corners and capturing the essence of Coyoacan’s bohemian lifestyle provides a visually stunning narrative for social media enthusiasts. My personal favourite has to be the many stunning houses in the most random alleyways, which have shrines adorned with beautiful papel picado. You can also make a stop at the Fonoteca Nacional- The National Library of Sounds, which has some pretty stunning views itself.

Casa de los Azulejos’ Tile Elegance

The Casa de los Azulejos, situated in the centre of Mexico City, is a historic edifice embellished with elaborate blue and white ceramic tiles. This renowned structure, once a royal residence and now a dining establishment, exudes an everlasting gracefulness that is ideal for any photos you want to put on Instagram. The juxtaposition of the intricate tiles against the contemporary urban landscape is a visually captivating spectacle, providing a look into Mexico’s rich architectural legacy.

Kiosco Morisco – Santa Maria La Ribera’s Moors

The Kiosco Morisco in Santa Maria La Ribera is a hidden gem boasting Moorish-inspired architecture amidst lush gardens. This ornate gazebo, with its detailed ironwork and eclectic design, offers a captivating blend of history and aesthetics. Photographing the Kiosco Morisco against the backdrop of the neighbourhood’s greenery provides a visually stunning composition that transports followers to a bygone era of architectural splendour. I took most of my photographs on the western side of the building, which had far less rush and had the best view of the tiles.
